EUDR · Kenyan coffee

What EUDR requires from a Kenyan coffee lot before December 2026

Geolocated plots, deforestation-free evidence, and a Due Diligence Statement — the practical checklist, not the regulation text.

What does EUDR actually require?

The EU Deforestation Regulation covers coffee, among other commodities, sold into the EU market. Before a shipment can clear customs, the exporter must supply geolocation coordinates for every plot the coffee came from, evidence the land was not deforested after 31 December 2020, and a Due Diligence Statement summarizing that evidence. The obligation date for coffee is 30 December 2026.

What that means for a lot leaving Kenya

In practice, geolocation happens at the plot, not the buying centre — a GPS point or polygon per farm parcel, tied back to the farmer who owns it. Deforestation-free evidence usually means satellite or map-based verification against the 2020 cut-off. The Due Diligence Statement bundles both into the format the EU system expects, filed per shipment, not once for the whole co-op.

Where MkulimaOS stands today

MkulimaOS runs an EUDR pilot: geolocated plots and Due Diligence Statement generation, exported as JSON or PDF from the same plot records the registry already holds. That's not the same as EUDR compliance — compliance is a determination EU authorities make per shipment — and MkulimaOS does not submit anything to an EU portal today.

What we don't claim

We don't call MkulimaOS 'EUDR-compliant.' No software can promise compliance on your behalf — that's a legal determination, not a feature, and we haven't run a shipment through an EU due-diligence portal. What we ship is the plot-level data and the statement format a compliant shipment needs.

Is MkulimaOS EUDR-compliant?

No system can claim blanket EUDR compliance — it's assessed per shipment by EU authorities. MkulimaOS runs an EUDR pilot: geolocated plots and Due Diligence Statement generation (JSON/PDF).

When is the EUDR deadline for Kenyan coffee exporters?

30 December 2026, for the due-diligence obligation on coffee entering the EU market.

What does a Due Diligence Statement need?

Plot-level geolocation and evidence the land was not deforested after 31 December 2020. MkulimaOS generates the statement in JSON or PDF from your registered plot data.
